"Strut Your Style" for Community Breast Care Project

Today I was happy to give the invocation at the "Strut Your Style" Fashion Show to benefit Community Breast Care Project because I love fashion!  There was a full house, all dressed up and all joining together to support this worthy cause.

Please join us in prayer:

Dear Lord,

Thank you for giving us the fun of fashion.
Fashion gives us confidence.  It allows us to express ourselves.  Fashion is more than that.
Fashion brings us all here today to celebrate survivors,
reminds us all to get our screenings and our mammograms,
and to support Community Breast Care Project.

Be with us all as we strut our holiday style,

and lift each other up,
for those who can be here and for those who cannot,
and to know that you are with us
every step of the way, or the "runway" today,
as we enjoy fashion, fellowship, friends and this meal.

Amen!

My First Thanksgiving as Mayor and the Day the Turkey Chickened Out

Turkey Blog

I started my Thanksgiving at a donation-only yoga class (thank you Megan Sappington) at Wilson’s Yoga Studio, a Thanksgiving tradition with my sister. Usually she’s visiting from Minneapolis but this year we celebrated her first Thanksgiving as a Missouri resident again along with her husband and my sweet nephew!  Welcome home sis!

We set an intention at the beginning of yoga class, mine was to be thankful. Today I’m thankful for such a giving community, thanks to all of you who support our local charities and those who volunteer to make a difference in the lives of others, you make Jefferson City better!

I was challenged to kiss a turkey to help the Samaritan Center raise 1,000 turkeys or $1,000. It all started when Bill Farr asked his Facebook friends if everyone would donate a turkey to Samaritan Center so I replied with “Let me be the first!” and the rest is history! We exceeded our goal and total donations reached $23,000!  Thanks to all who gave or who still want to give to Samaritan Center, 1310 East McCarty, Jefferson City, MO 65101, or contact Ms. DeFeo at (573) 634-7776. Thanks for your generosity!

I had my pucker ready but it looks like the turkey “chickened out!” so I got to kiss a tiger and a cow instead!! THANKS to Stripes, the Lincoln University Blue Tiger and to the Chick-Fil-A Cow!!!

Today I am thankful for all of the families who got to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal thanks to our generous community!

Sincerely,

A Very Thankful Mayor!

WOW the community raised $23,000 for Samaritan Center!

Veteran's Day, 11-11-15

Fortunate to attend some of the wonderful Veterans events today in Jefferson City, including the Capitol Rotunda where I had the chance to offer a welcome!

Veterans Day 2015
Remember, Honor, Respect
I’m Mayor Carrie Tergin and on behalf of the City of Jefferson I welcome and thank all of you here today.
Words alone cannot express our thanks to our Veterans and to all those who protect and serve our country.  There are no words worthy to express our sincere gratitude for their sacrifices.
Being here today shows our thanks.

Smiling at our Veterans, taking them out for coffee or lunch.  Shaking their hand.
Paying respect to those who have gone before us by visiting a cemetery or memorial.
Bringing the Moving Vietnam Memorial Wall to the Jefferson City Capitol grounds, offering a “Welcome Home!”
Supporting the Honor Flight.  Supporting the Wounded Warrior Project.
Listening to their stories.  Teaching the next generation.
         Remember.
         Share.
         Learn.
         Never forget their sacrifices.
Never forget why we are here today.
Today is about Remembering, Honoring, Respecting.
Honoring their effort.  Their bravery.
The respect we show our veterans extends beyond speaking to them directly.  It’s much bigger than that.  We must all take a moment, step back from any bickering and disagreement that we see in society today, and speak more thoughtfully, quietly and fairly.  Because it’s ultimately a disrespect to all who fought so hard for our freedoms that we enjoy.
Let’s remember to respect and to use the freedoms we were given, at the hands of our Veterans, for the good of our society, our community, our country.
Which as my grandfather, George Tergin, a Greek immigrant, called America the “Best Country on Earth!”
At this morning’s Veterans event at Freedom Corner I listened to Mr. Dave Griffith talk about jumping out of a plane and I thought, “I am just the Mayor.”  Our veterans have made sacrifices more than I can ever imagine.  I am just the Mayor.  But through their service and sacrifice we have the opportunity to vote and choose our elected officials.  I am just the Mayor but especially today I feel lifted up by all who have served, and in turn I can lead our community!
Thank you Veterans, and have a great and respectful Veteran’s Day
